Study Skills - Computer Literacy & Geography

The goal of this course is to prepare students for the extensive computer skills they will need not only in middle school but also in higher education and/or in their careers. Students taking this elective will be introduced to various basic computer skills. Students in grade 6 will apply the basic word-processing skills (which will include correct use of the keyboard), presentation skills, effective research skills. Students will also be introduced to the key components of being a digital citizen and learn about Internet safety concerns they may experience. Correct terminology related to hardware, software, and applications will be introduced and reinforced throughout the semester. Students will apply these skills to complete core curriculum projects focused on the five themes of geography.
